Mira Sorvino rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with her breakout role in Woody Allen’s comedy-drama Mighty Aphrodite ❤️ (1995). Her performance in the film earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Following this Sorvino went on to star in a variety of films across different genres. In 1997, she showcased her comedic talents alongside Lisa Kudrow in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997). She also starred in The Replacement Killers with Hong Kong action icon Chow Yun-Fat (1998), Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam (1999), and Reservation Road (2007). Most recently, she appeared in Look Away (2018), Stuber (2019), and Lamborghini (2022).
One notable film in Sorvino’s repertoire is Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic (1997). In this sci-fi horror, Sorvino plays Dr. Susan Tyler, a scientist tasked with stopping a deadly epidemic spread by genetically engineered 🪳 insects! In addition to her work in film, Sorvino has starred in numerous TV series like Will & Grace, Intruders, Falling Skies, Condor, The Expecting, Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story (2021), Modern Family and most recently in Sharon Horgan’s acclaimed comedy horror Shining Vale (2022) with Courtney Cox.
